Cross Banding into a Repeater (Extending Access)

This is something that comes up occasionally, and this is not suggested unless you know the repeater owner is ok with you doing this.

Best practices for using cross band repeat into a repeater input should be such that you do not harm the repeater or open up the repeater to potential damage. To this end, the use of DCS or a PL to protect the repeater from your cross band input should be used. This will help to prevent your cross band radio from locking up in constant Tx to the repeater. If you were to lock Tx to a repeater, you may damage the repeater's final amplifiers by keeping them engaged beyond what their rated duty is. Take note of the diagram below. Whenever you are in doubt about an advanced feature like this, you should always reach out to someone in the community. There are plenty of folks that are familiar with this style of operation and would be more than willing to walk you through it.
